Dear Parents and Citizens of the Colmesneil School District,
I am sure you are aware of the discussions surrounding the I69 TxDot project. However, you might now be aware of the impact this will not only have on the cities of Tyler County but also the impact on our school district and our town. TxDot has designed two routes, both of which will bypass the town of Colmesneil. These routes would also bypass all of Woodville. The economic effect would be devastating because tax revenue from restaurants, businesses, and Walmart will decrease significantly. Some Tyler County services would be reduced such as the police department and the hospital. The loss of jobs, property and resources within our county will diminish substantially. School bus routes would have to be reconfigured and local traffic will be impacted as well.
Mike Marshall, Precinct 3 Commissioner, has designed an alternative to the two routes proposed by TxDot. This plan would allow for the design of an elevated overpass with exits at each end that provides access to the City of Colmesneil. In addition, no homes, businesses or churches would be affected.
Please consider attending any scheduled meetings conducted by the county or TxDot to receive comprehensive information on this project. There is also the opportunity for you to sign a petition that already has over 600 signatures in favor of the plan by Mr. Marshall. These petitions are located at Burger House, The Bulldog Café, and Jimmy Crews Insurance. You may also contact Dr. Brian Babin or Senator Nichols for more information.
The Colmesneil Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a Resolution at a duly called Board Meeting on June 10, 2024, supporting the alternative plan that is in the best interest of CISD, Colmesneil businesses and the entire county.
Keeping in mind what is best for our students and our community,
Respectfully,
Sharon Tule
CISD Superintendent
